“I feel anxious because you never phone!” “I’m angry because she just doesn’t care!” These ways of expressing ourselves can be helpful for processing our feelings, but are not always useful when it comes to communicating with other people.

The aim, as ever, is to express ourselves fully in a way that doesn’t suppress difficult feelings, but to do it in a way that others can get on board with.
